Hi Alan - I don't know if you remember me or not but I use to date Jody Throckmorton many many years ago (our high school years) and you were one of his good friends at the time. You actually double dated with us and we hung out together. I remember listening to you and your dad play at your birthday party and thinking that you were great! But more importantly you were always such a nice guy. I was looking for some bluegrass and happened upon your site. I was so happy to see that you have done so well for yourself. In any case - It made me think of memories I had long forgotten and brought a smile to my face. I trust everything is going well for you. You are in my thoughts and prayers!

Thanks SO much for the CD, listening in the car. Just fantastic! I of course dig very much the new instrumental in A, just the right groove for all to shine. All the tunes are great, a very nice mix of your band's special blend of grass, the best yet.

You should be very proud of The Other Side of Towne.

Grasstowne Bluegrass Radio Show

My good friend Pete Deachman in Ontario is doing a bluegrass show on http://www.cfrc.ca and he's named the show Grasstowne. It's every Sunday 4-6. Pete really knows his stuff too. He's a great guitar player and singer and best of all does the most awesome "Floyd the barber"(from the Andy Griffith Show) impersonation EVER! Check him out!

We just got back from the Bluegrass In The Forest festival in Shelton, WA. I can't say enough about what a great and well put together event this is. Greg Linder and all of the folks associated with the the Festival do a first rate job in every aspect. I highly recommend the festival! I also wanted to say thanks to all the mandolin players at the workshop and mandolin tasting we had on Saturday. I hope they all had as much fun as I did!

mandolin question

Hey Alan, My son found an old gibson mando. He thinks it is an A40, but it has a pickup. Did they make any A40s with a pick up? If not, would a pickup make it less valuable? We know that the A40s aren't worth as much, but they only want $100 and it would be an improvement to what he now has just to play. What do you thin? Paula Breedlove

I will be in the Myrtle Beach area from May4-8. Are there any workshops or suggestions for daily lessons from a local instructor. I'm 3 yrs. into the mandolin, and am a beginner/intermediate. As far as instructors, patience would be a virtue!
