Hey Alan, My son found an old gibson mando. He thinks it is an A40, but it has a pickup. Did they make any A40s with a pick up? If not, would a pickup make it less valuable? We know that the A40s aren't worth as much, but they only want $100 and it would be an improvement to what he now has just to play. What do you thin? Paula Breedlove

Hi Paula,
It's got to be a winner for $100. I don't think hey made any with pick-ups built in and yes it may de-value it some depending on how it's installed but it still has to be a great deal for that price. Let me know how it goes. Best regards,

Thanks for the information. I told my son what you said and he went ahead and bought the gibson mandolin just in time. Someone else was going to buy it the next day with their income tax money. It looks to be in pretty good condition to me and he likes that it has the pickups. He didn't buy it as a collector. He bought it to play, so I think it will work well for him. Thanks again Paula Breedlove
